It is probably because of my fashion blogger roots that I have a huge archive of photographs from different fashion editorials and magazines. I usually (like most people) save whatever it is that I like, so from time to time I search through those folders and some pics actually do inspire me for the work that I am doing at that time.
A couple of months ago, right after I finished the spring 2011 collection that I showed at Valiug (which was very colorful with a lot of prints and yellow) I felt a need to go back to natural and neutral, so I chose the following color palette of beige, taupe, dusty pink, vintage rose, light grey and brown:
Because this is a fall collection, I used a lot of wool fabric and cotton. I hate polyester fabrics (probably like any other designer out there), so most fabrics are natural, but the furs. For the long, evening dresses I used silk and chiffon, and a tiny bit of organza because it can create a more voluminous shape.
Below are the initial sketches that I made:
It actually happened one morning when I was in no mood for work, so I just started drawing and developing ideas starting from a tight, beige, wool dress. Of course I added more looks while working, I always do that. It’s actually hard to just stop and say: ‘this collection is finished’, because you can always take it further - any direction that may be.
