While most people enjoy their Friday nights while going out and having a great times with friends, I stay at home and have fun with my sewing machine (it sounds a bit pathetic, I know!). Even my boyfriend was out last Friday, as he has a part time job taking pictures of the partying people, for a club,  to post on their website. That means he goes out every weekend. Of course I could join him, but instead of staying in cigarette smoke, listening to bad music and drinking alcohol, I prefer staying at home sewing, while drinking hot chocolate-milk. Did I grow too old for going out? Hopefully being 20 is not considered old now-a-days; I just don’t afford to waist any of my time, you know?

Anyway, this is the work I got to do on Friday: a dress, a top from the same fabric, both with pleating details at the waist and a clutch. Click to see the full post, to read more about my designs and actually see the animal printed clutch.

The fabric of the dress is a bit stiff, but I like it this way because the top part stays up like a corset thing. It got a bit too short, but I can also wear it with a pencil skirt or with classic, black, skinny jeans. Loved the fact that the color is degraded  from navy blue into an olive-gray. The top also has like a thick navy-blue brush stroke across the waist. For a bit of contrast I used red textile colors to scribble random words on it, on the bottom left part of it.

The animal printed fabric is actually a denim fabric, so it’s quite thick. I struggled to finish sewing it, I broke 5 needles because the fabric at the pleats part got to be too thick. I know, that’s why professionals use special sewing machines for handbags. I guess sometimes I’m just too enthusiastic and want to do it all! At least I tried hard to finish this clutch and eventually I did. So, all is well when it ends well, right?

I’m on the same boat as you.
Sometimes I feel like my machine is my greatest friend.

The first dress is gorgeous! So simple and elegant and sexy! After getting the clothes I have ordered already, it is very possible I will start craving about this one ;) You should stock some fabric for it, ’cause I think I won’t be the only one falling in love with it!

Yup! I’ve discovered recently this combination dark blue and beige, it’s awesome. And am totally in the not-going-out-always-working/crafting-creating-at-home thing :D , so me is just as uncool as you are for this particular reason..at only 20 years old :) )…congratulations again, for all that you ARE :*

Hot Cocoa! You wild thing!!! lol :)

OK, OK, I know I’m usually Debbie Downer when it comes to (unasked) critiques, but I absolutely love the first dress!! And here’s why: The hand of the fabric (meaning the drape, which in this case is stiffer than most dress fabrics) makes the whole fit right on. It gives it shape, and body. The amount of details is perfect, not overdone at all, basically enough to give it personality, but not too much to overwhelm the wearer.
The color (lovely and sophisticated with your coloring may I add) and the gradient at the bottom- really nice touch and you did a great job at positioning it (better than if it was at the top, good call).
Top stitching- you might want to look for matching thread, it looks a little too sporty on what would otherwise be a perfect cocktail dress (just think of the photoshoot possibilities!), but other than that, I commend you on the straight- ish stitching- especially on a home sewing machine. Speaking of which, you’re approaching the point where an industrial will make a world of difference in your sewing, both quality- wise and time saving. Oh, and don’t think the FINISHED double faced tie goes unnoticed :) next time stitch all the way around it, even if it’s only one piece folded in half and you don’t need the stitching on the fold side- it makes it look consistent. Glad to see my nagging gets through, lol You made mamma proud (teary eyed ;) )

The top (second garment)- skip it, call it an experiment, the marker writing made me think this was a fabric sample piece (suppliers send out marked pieces before ordering so you can see, feel and work with the fabric, but not make anything you can sell out of it) before I read you wrote on it yourself, lol- creativity just doesn’t stop with you, does it? Good try, but leave this one out of the portfolio, not to mention the top part is not double faced, tsk, tsk, tsk, naughty, naughty, you were in a rush at 2:00 am, tired, but on a roll from having the dress come out great so you wanted to push yourself and make more things, weren’t you?

I like the dress, it’s still your quirky style, but quite a little bit more “grown up”, more sophisticated- my, my, is that your voice peeking through, I think you’re finding it :) Also, more main stream, wearable (= business= $$$, or in your case, Euros ;) ka-chiing! New Industrial Sewing Machine). :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I have to agree with the comment before me, the dress looks a lot like the colour-degraded garments Prada had some time ago! awesome.
I also like your collar bones ;)
