The Grey, over at Six O’Clock Style, just made a wonderful dress for herself (from her mom’s old fabric), after being inspired by the long, color-block dress that was “oh, so hot” this summer. DKNY, Zara, Mango, Asos, Topshop, and many more had their take on this trend [click here for images].

So, how could I have passed the chance to make my own color block dress? I didn’t! This is it:

I can wear it flowy…

I chose a more toned down palette of colors to make it more fall appropriate (black, gray, creme and dark red), and also, I didn’t want it to be so flowy, so I sewed it more tightly at the body, but still not too tight; just perfect to create a potato sack shape [(?) my mom said it looked like a sack]. It also has a tiny bow at the side, and the possibility to tie it as tight as you wish, making it wearable by lots of types ob bodies.

Or belted:

I can even wear it with a random tank underneath, as a really long, high-waisted skirt!

I am tall, I admit, but wearing it, I do seem so much taller and that’s a good thing, right? [Ugh, my mom said I looked "interesting, people will laugh at you if you wear it on the streets" as in weird, but I just don't care anymore...]

It looks so much better on you than me, precisely because you’re tall. :) I really like your colours too! I would’ve preferred to do something with darker (purplish) pink combined with white myself, but there wasn’t anything in that shade on mum’s fabric shelf.

And my mother wasn’t a fan of my dress either, her reaction was close to your mum’s! And when I sent pictures of the dress to my stepmom, she diplomatically said that it was “interesting”. :P
