My mom recently gave me approval and free access to these two satin shirts she didn’t wear anymore. I think it’s sad for clothes to just sit in the closet, therefor when somebody stops wearing something I instantly think about changing that garment so that it’s wearable again. I did that with 3/4 of my mom’s closet and I even took a dip into my dad’s.

These are the latest “mom” shirts I changed/re-invented, saving them from the darkest corner of the closet where they would have ended up, if it wasn’t for my bit of creativity:

I love the volume of the sleeves, so I created a bit of a contrast by tying belts out of fabric at the waist area. Some pleats at the bottom and on a side of the blouse and ready it is: my new layered top thing.

After that I changed this blouse into a wrap top. It wasn’t hard at all, I just shortened the sleeves and made them “puffy” (big trend this fall), and added two buttons to tie the blouse on each side. It completely changed the shape, no?

Next time you go through your mom’s closet, think twice about what you throw away. You never know what a great, hidden potential the garment might have.
